Boost for 44 Belait District students

Forty-four students recently received contributions from Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP), Brunei Fertilizer Industries Sdn Bhd (BFI) and imagine Sdn Bhd, to enable easier access to online learning, while preparing for their ‘O’ and ‘A’ Level examinations.

The students were selected from six secondary schools and the Belait Sixth Form Centre (PTE Belait), as part of the Minda Prihatin COVID-19 Support Relief: Edulink initiative, led by the Minda Youth Movement.

The initiative is a response to the challenges faced by the disadvantaged community in Belait District, in adapting to studying at home, amid the current health restrictions.

The ceremony was held at the BSP headquarters on Saturday, in the presence of Deputy Managing Director and Commercial Director of BSP Haji Mohammad Azmi bin Haji Mohd Hanifah.

BSP, through its BSPCares staff donation drive, contributed 30 units of educational devices, which will enable the students to continue their lessons online.

Meanwhile, BFI contributed 14 new laptops, as part of its internal donation platform, ‘A Gift From The Heart’, in support of academically gifted students, while encouraging them to pursue further skills and knowledge.

imagine Sdn Bhd’s contribution was aimed at connecting the students to their online learning platforms, via the imagine Wish Prepaid sim cards that feature the company’s unique roll-over data service.

In the coming weeks, these sim cards will receive 1GB on a daily basis, before the start of a school day, with any remaining data from the previous day carried forward.

The 44 donated SIM cards are an addition to imagine’s earlier donation to the Ministry of Education (MoE) of 50 Wish Prepaid SIM cards, along with a further 25 Wish Prepaid SIM cards under imagine’s own CSR initiative for disadvantaged students.

imagine CEO Suzannawati binti Haji Suharju said, “This inter-company collaboration sets a precedence that together we can achieve more, as a community.

“We are excited for this opportunity to partner with BSP and BFI, led by aspiring youth from Minda Youth Movement, who have been key in ensuring that our collective efforts can be maximised for those in need.”

For imagine Wish Postpaid and Wish Prepaid customers wishing to sustain the charity can type ‘Learn[space]1/5/10/15/20/50/100’ and send to 39998.

Non-imagine customers may visit the company’s website at imagine.com.bn, under ‘A-Dollar-A-Cheer’, to make a donation.
